Mary Odell Butler's book is a comprehensive guide to how to do evaluation anthropology, especially in the United States. With candid passages about own experiences and about her own career path, she discusses ethics, methodology, dilemmas about the position of the evaluator and about career choices. She introduces evaluation to anthropologists and anthropology to evaluators, and assesses the necessity of evaluation anthropology as a separate field.
